Hi, I just found you.
I like your style, breezy, bright-eyed (you did notice that I can see your eyes thru WordPress~), and no bull.
My name is Craig Martineau. I am a 70-year-old writer with a bad ticker, diabetes (the worst of the worst), bad eyes and a sore butt from typing all day and most of the night. That’s not true anymore. I try to quit by 10PM. It used to be 3AM but I am getting better at walking away from the computer. Hopefully, it won’t follow me on one of my iPads – really old ones (oops I broke Stephen King’s cardinal rule – show don’t tell).
I write – not enough. But I have 5 publications on Medium.com; 4 sites on Blogger; 1 WordPress site. I also send out articles on Substack and Gumroad and Newsletters to those that follow me on Medium.com. I am going to try to earn money on Gumroad offering some affiliate products (Envato, SlideModel & FTTP [not strictly affiliate but I am going to offer to remodel the PowerPoints,] , Answer the Public and Keyword Analyzer (to read the public’s mind), and give away a Christmas card I make (black) and a Calendar I am working on.
I spent my life in the restaurant business, coffee business and civil engineering. Varied and mostly interesting – while working there. I don’t think I’d go back.Much too hard work. I need to find a writing job where I can sit all day.
If you need a sample: https://www.wordpress.com/dabblerduckbutts. I know an impressive title. Do you know what a dabbler duck is? Once you learn you’ll never forget and you will constantly extol the virtues of a website with a strange name.
I used to write primarily anti-trump material on it but I am trying to change. In fact, I’ve been trying to learn how to write short stories. I have loved them ever since the first O’Henry and Ray Bradbury ones I read.
Hopefully, this has been enough information to realize that you have to pick me. I am the ONLY ONE who fits all of your criteria.
Thanks and have a great Memorial Day weekend. I am going to be writing all weekend. I think taxes are due.
“I hear we’re having steak tonight?”
“Steak? Oh, Boy! Rare?”
“Better ‘n better”
“I need your muscles though.”
“To carry the ice-cold beer!”
“Can do, can do!”
“Hey, Ole.” “How’s Lena doin’?”
“You heard about that huh?”
“Oh, geez. She’s not gonna be happy.”
“Why that’s the point of getting married, so you can have kids.”
“Well, we had to because her dad had a shotgun!”
“I know but 4 shud be enouf, ya think?”
“Ole, however many you two have is a blessing, right?”
“So, the pastor says.” “Course he doesn’t have to pay for them!”
Ed. I would like to interject an explanation here:
In case some of you are not from the Land of 10,000 Lakes you may not be familiar with Ole and Lena.
The names Ole and Lena are well used in Northern Minnesota. Ole is the name of a great warrior.
Lena (pronounced Leena – with the emphasis on the second vowel) is pronounced, incorrectly I might add, “Layna” (emphasis on the first vowel) by the Swedes, a wild tribe that also inhabits Northern MN.
You may discern that there is no love lost between the tribes, except in this particular situation where Ole is Norwegian and Lena is Swedish (an old love story for sure). So much so that Ole and Lena are national heroes and you hear the names often – especially at supper time “OOOLLLEEEEE”.
Ole is bald and a bit pudgy, not overly so, but he is recognized as a lover of the malt.
Lena is a rare beauty, long blonde hair tied in braids with rosy pink cheeks. Yes, indeed, a fair maiden.
Ole’s best friend is See More. I guess I don’t know is given name we have always called him See More due to his inch-thick glasses that he has to keep pushing up on this nose.
(I must add I think he is the smarter of the two – but don’t say anything I don’t want to start that ruckus all over again.)
As Ole and See More are buzzing their way home discussing the upcoming feast they know awaits them (they first have to stop to get the ice-cold beer) they are observed by two other friends Rocky and Blockhead (blockhead is a nickname fur shur).
We know that Rocky and Blockhead are Mosquito Hawks see picture.
Now we have the picture:
Two friends buzzing home to a meal of blood and steak and two other friends observing them.
What is in store for our two best buds?
Two mosquitoes with blood one their minds and two mosquito hawks.
Well, I don’t know because Mosquito Hawks don’t eat mosquitoes.
Isn’t that strange?
Must be from Minnie so tah! (Emphasis on the last vowel.)
We will have to tune into the next edition to find out what in the world is going on.
Thanks for stopping.
I would like to copy all I have been reading but it will have to wait until I get on my laptop.
There are so many criminal activities going on it is impossible to know where to start.
It is not good for this country, our government, and its citizens.
As much as I harass trump supporters most are only being guilty of being stupid.
They suck up everything that criminal says, swallow it whole and regurgitate it without examining it – that is just stupid!
Now, there are some that are criminals in their own right.
None as bad as trump but trump is as crazy as a loose cannon. He is crazy like a fox, mean as a snake and can’t be trusted – for any reason.
Having said that, trump is an unAmerican bastard. NO ONE IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES HAS WORKED SO HARD TO DESTROY THIS COUNTRY THAT MADE HIM RICH.
But money is not how he kept score. He counted bodies. That is all that matter to him. Body count. As in a war. His war against America.
I had been feeling ugly all day.
In the evening my wife took me to the emergency room.
On November 14, 2018, I died.
If you are going to die, a hospital is probably the best place to do it.
Of course, I don’t remember.
The ONLY thing I do remember is PAIN!
I remember flying up from the ER table and that is all.
I was told I couldn’t possibly remember.
Well, they weren’t there.
Oh yeah, they were there.
But they don’t know. I know.
A doctor came to see me and we discussed implanting a defibrillator so if my heart stopped again, the defibrillator would restart it.
It seemed like a smart thing to do – implant the defibber or whatever it was.
My concern was running the lines outside of my body into my heart.
I suffer from a leg infection “cellulitis” due to my diabetes.
The opportunity for transmitting that infection from my legs to my heart seemed pretty scary if there was a line running outside my body.
As I sit here typing this I have a huge gob of skin missing on my left leg.
It slid off the other night. I’ve been to the doctor, the ER, and
the Wound Clinic. But they can’t put Humpty together again.
Cellulitis is caused by fluid build-up between the layers of skin.
Bacteria love the warm fluid and quickly cause an infection.
The infection causes the skin to blister.
Blistered skin means a day later it sloughs off. And now it is raw meat. HURTS!
The doctor agreed. He recommended an internal device.
On a scale of 1 to 10 for awesome decisionmaking, this was a -0.
On a Friday afternoon in October, my bride and I were in the
car mosying up and down the boulevard when I COULDN’T
This is not a good thing.
I said, “to the hospital, NOW!”
She knew we were closer to a clinic than the hospital so she
zipped the few blocks to the clinic.
I asked her to get a nurse and a wheelchair.
I may not have said those exact words since an electric elephant was pounding my chest. (The pink battery bunny? Only much bigger.)
I was screaming at the top of my lungs.
It hurt so bad!
She came out with a big guy who said he had worked in the ER.
I was much relieved at the news. He was going to stay with me
until the ambulance got there.
The ambulance, lights blazing and siren blaring roared into the parking
Of course, the fire engine and patrol cars had to tag along.
They did their questionnaire and decided I had to get out of the
I alerted them to the fact that was a problem since:
1) I could barely breathe and 2) my legs were mush.
They brought out the coolest tool- a semi-rigid blanket.
Somehow they worked it around me, I stood up and they laid
me back on the blanket and moved me to the gurney. In the blink of the eye.
I have said on many occasions in the last two years – I will take a med-tech instead of some doctors. These people that work for Mayo Clinic Ambulance are AWESOME!
If you don’t have a primary doctor eligible to work in the hospital (my primary is a VA doctor) you don’t get a specialist. You get a hospitalist.
“His” opinion of why I had so much chest pain was: The upper chamber of my heart emptied into my lower chamber before the lower chamber had emptied.
They gave me some pills to slow down my heart rate.
I had three more of those attacks.
I wasn’t expecting anything different when I went to the emergency room on my birthday November 14.
That was the day I died.
The power supply was implanted under my armpit and the wires were plugged into my heart.
It was implanted on November 16, 2018.
January and February were good – no new attacks.
The pills are working!
The defib hadn’t gone off.
March – a little one. Another pill to take.
April was good – Whoohooo! Better living thru Chemistry!
October “DAMN!” That hurt. What the hell!!!
If I had been standing I would have been on my butt!
Ambulance was called.
NOW thoughts were dancing in my head and not of sugarplums either.. The roads – especially the freeway in Duluth MN is enough to jostle every brain cell out of you.
Laying on your back on gurney.
In an ambulance. Rocky back and forth, and bouncing up and down.
I wrote a nasty email to the mayor once I was settled into my room.(My wife says I am too negative and mean to people. I guess I don’t understand her question.) I suggested to the mayor that she have the guy in charge of street repairs try riding in an ambulance on his streets.
Ambulance tech shaking and shoving a needle into an artery.
The ambulance techs has to prep you so if needed IV intervention as soon as you get to the ER you are ready to go.
I have had techs give me better IVs than nurses – By Far.
The ABSOLUTE WORST! IV’s are the ones they put on the top of your hand. They hurt for weeks afterward.
The ABSOLUTE worst IV? An ER doctor. He tried putting it in my hand three times. Three times!
I told him to put it in the crook of my elbow. My artery jumps right out of my skin there.
“No. It will pull out.”
I wake up in my room.
The IV is stuck in the crook of my arm!
I was in absolute pain every. For one and a half hours!
To the hospital I hollered.
In the ER I hollered.
By now I am screaming at the top of my lungs. An electric elephant was sitting on my chest and doing the tango.
I learned later that my heart rate was 228 instead of the normal rate is 100 – 150.
I had VT –Ventricular Tachycardia. Translated it means pain from hell.
This particular grey, gloomy day went on for one and one-half hours!
God, I hurt. I screamed, I swore, and I kicked.
“ What the heck happened?” I asked the ER doctor.
I later realized they aren’t going to tell you anything. Nothin’
The regular doctor probably would have a fit if the ER doctor told me something that disagreed with what the regular wanted to say.
The ER doctors are too busy to answer questions anyway.
Well, I survived so I was happy. But that HURT!
Made it past that most unlucky day – my birthday.
November – FOURTH WEEK
It’s back. And with a vengeance.
One shock upon another. The nasty thing is – if it has to shock you twice – Yup you guessed it. The second one is a lot stronger than the first.
The doctor came down and presented a proposal.
He was going home for Christmas.
He would go to his Alma Mater and talk with his professors.
They might even suggest that I go to their facility for a procedure. (Geez a choice of U of Pitt or Loyola, which should I choose?)
One more blast right after Christmas dang I hope the doctor is back soon!
The new year.
Here it is– – the ninth.
Two! A double whammy. Bam! BAM!
Ambulance is on the way. Much too cold to have my wife drive.
In the morning of all the crazy things.
OK folks. I am not leaving here until this thing gets fixed!
Well I had to wait for quite a while.
Finally, the doctor showed up. He doesn’t have time to do it this week.
But, the soft-spoken doctor that saved me when I was in the ER he would take the old defibrillator out.
This guy with the spiky blond hair would do the ablation on Friday – his day off.
First I had to have an MRI.
Have you ever had an MRI? The technicians lay you on a table that is about 6 inches wide and that brings you into the guts of this huge drum.
It makes noise. LOUD Noise. Rattle, bang, BANG, shimmy. My goodness, you could go deaf listening to the tunes it plays.
The real nasty about the MRI – it is NARROW.
I am not a small guy. My shoulders are squished, my elbow rubs on the drum as it rotates. Elbows get carpet burns.
But I made it thru the claustrophobia.
MRI is done and I’m whisked off to another room. Lots of hustle and bustle as the guys strap me in and hook me up to tubes.
I sure hope they remember how to get me out of here. They work so fast!
All of sudden I’m not there anymore.
The doctor, an electrophysiologist, tells me he hasn’t been able to make my heart fail.
I’m still under the influence.
“I can’t make it stop. The ablation worked. I dug around a bit, pulled something out. You don’t need to wear a defibrillator anymore.”
WOW. Was that great news!
No more jolts followed by searing pain.
Got off the table. Got dressed. Met my wife at the main door.
I haven’t looked back.
Thanks for stopping.
I read a great article last week.
“Prepare for the Ultimate Gaslighting” “You are not crazy, my friends.” @Julio Vincent Gambuto.
I had been aching to write one almost like it, but I could not get the words out. Has that ever happened to you?
That had happened earlier this year when I was grinding my teeth to get an article written about how are we going to face each other when the Trump thing is gone?
We will have to find a way to work together.
Bam! The Attack of the Virus! 50,000+ people dead!
And it will return in the fall! S
Sorry kids maybe no Trick or Treating this year.
But I am going to write my story anyway. I have this angst that must come out.
Soon everyone will have cabin fever. The need for speed or just sunshine will force them to the beaches as happened in Los Angeles.
Georgia and other southern states are also holding forth the warm, bright sun and sandy beaches.
Protesters that forced the city governments to reopen too soon have already had deaths in their ranks.
Next week we will hear how the beachgoers in Los Angeles fared.
Watch the ads. Powerful forces are at work pushing you, tempting you to venture out: taxing authorities, liquor distributors, waitresses, etc.
The is “let’s get back to normal.”
How can that be? Almost 60,000 people have died to date. That is more than died in Vietnam!
Who is going to be held responsible for these deaths?
Maybe I’m being pessimistic. Maybe as things open and people start dying maybe then city governments will restore sanity.
Let’s face it. Your need to dig your toes in warm sand is not a public health issue.
People going outside and sucking in that warm spring air are being killed by it.
Maybe people will understand the risk.
How much risk are you comfortable with?
The risk of a nasty, painful illness and then add maybe death.
Every marketing firm in the country will try to entice you to “Come out and play”
Waters fine. Get your boat, jetskis, and let’s go.
But, the VIRUS will be there ahead of you – waiting.
Marketers have an overarching need to find out what consumers don’t have, what will make them feel good, and make it or find it and sell it. At a profit.
You’ve seen it, “as seen on TV”.
Now, there will be even more emphasis on what can do your work for you. You only have a short time – why work? Live it up!
I have choices of Grammarly, ProWriting Aid, Hemingway. More than I would have guessed. The formats to write on, MS Word, Squiblr, Scrivener.
Hmm, I wonder how they will present that macabre thought on TV?
You can bet they are already rockin’ their think tank.
People in the major cities New York, Atlanta, Miami have seen the dark side.
Will that change their thinking?
I have been hoping that we would find a way to at least talk to each other again.
We need major restorative operations on our hearts and minds.
I was heartened by the news from the Supreme Court on Sunday. They are not going to change any gun laws as was expected. Also, they are leaving the Affordable Care Act in place.
A big question. Will people see blue skies and decide we don’t need fossil fuels any longer?
How can we fix healthcare, housing, food distribution so people don’t have to be beggars any longer?
Crime stopped for the last several weeks, didn’t it?
If we give people their pride, a job that has value, a place to be proud of, and some way they will have a sense of pride and self-worth.
How can we trust the government again? It acted in bad faith at every juncture. It had the opportunities to shine with American pride but it decided to roll in the gutter with Corona.
Will people continue to let Jeff Bezos earn thousands of dollars per minute and not pay his fair share of taxes or pay his workers a living wage.
He gave them an increase in their hourly wage but took away a bonus.
Why do the wealthy have to be so greedy? I don’t understand.
You have lived a soldier’s life for the last several weeks. Wondering where you will be in the morning. If you will have a hot meal. Wondering how you will live with the stress.
The questions keep coming.
Will I suffer like Chris Cuomo?
Will I die?
Will my parents die?
Life on the homefront just like in the Vietnam War. What? Where? When? WHY?
Even the count of those that died is the same.
I can’t get my head around that. 50,000+ people. Dead.
In such a short time.
The merry-go-round we’ve been on for the last 50 years has stopped. Or is somebody just dragging their feet so they can wear out their shoes and get a new pair they like better?
As soon as the darkness fell I began hoping for a new dawn.
But it seems that the people that acted badly are still acting badly. They are just as stupid and heartless as they have been.
Maybe there is no way to change them. If 50,000 people dying and 3 million sick doesn’t have an impact on them then what?
I don’t know much. But I do know we can’t let them have the reins of power again.
Maybe every congressperson, every senator local through national level has to take a civics class.
They need to be taught manners, the spirituality of compassion, and looking out for your neighbor.
How do we learn to trust our representatives again?
So many acted so badly.
How did they lose the American spirit?
Thanks for stopping.
15,000 troops marched in the 70th Anniversary Parade in October 2019, Image Thomas Peters – Reuters.
Scientists believe this to be the largest hole in the ozone layer ever recorded.
The hole covers an area roughly three times the size of Greenland.
It can expose people living at far northern latitudes to high levels of ultraviolet light radiation.
It appears that it will close on its own in a few weeks an ESA researcher stated.
If this supervolcano erupts it will cause massive destruction. It has only erupted 3 times before: 2.1 million years ago, 1.3 million years ago, and 640,000 years ago.
Sorry for the detours but these were events of great significance if they complete configurations. The earthquake at Yellowstone registered 7.5 magnitude.
Scientists measure supernovae using two scales: one is the energy of the explosion, and the other is the amount of that energy emitted as observable light, or radiation. Matt Nicholl is the lead author and also a lecturer in the School of Physics and Astronomy and the Institute of Gravitational Wave Astronomy at the University of Birmingham in England.
Thank you for stopping.
I could spend all day every day with my head in the stars.
I am sorry this is so late. I had the research done on Sunday. It is now Thursday. What happened?
Looking at all of the files I collected, I decided a better way was to group blog posts by category.
There are so many side roads to take with novel coronavirus or Corona as I like to call her.
I call her “my darling” when we are alone.
What else could a writer want but 100 new topics a day all pointing down different paths?
I believe trump really misjudged this one. Even if he did not, and even if 40% of people love what he is doing with this virus, the results in this once-in-a-lifetime catastrophe will be enough to condemn anyone. It may be a PR nightmare that is unwinnable.
As I announced last Friday evening on Facebook, I cannot in good conscience, name each criminal act of our leader, every day until the election.
But neither can I not write about him.
I had hoped to start writing short stories and earn some money with freelancing, but this mission takes higher priority.
Standing at the Minneapolis recruiting station, I took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America.
I have not been relieved of that oath.
It is even more important now that SCOTUS has sided against the “We the People” of the Constitution by its allowing the vote in Wisconsin to go on despite the pandemic. (A liberal woman won the seat on the State Supreme Court! – The exact thing the republicans with their hijinks tried to prevent.)
As I will point out in the posts of the next months, trump is not worthy of a second term (nor the first term in my opinion).
So watch out for the weaves, you may have to duck.
No doubt. But the issue is how do I replace them?
I think I am of one mind and one spirit.
Trump has no such problem.
He puts on his mob face and merrily or merely calls in his enforcers and they “handle” it.
His “team” understand the rules.
Maybe bats helped the virus escape from a lab in Wuhan? Some conservatives think so.
Some conservatives also think it is a virus that has been weaponized by China! China says it was the US Army.
Who do you think is lying? I’ll go with the conservatives like Lips Limbaugh.
Would trump force his fierce ire on this tiger at the Bronx Zoo?
Maybe trump misunderstood when Pete Navarro gave him a warning in January. Mr. President, novel corona is not Corona Extra! You may not even want a lemon wedge with it.
Corona Extra is the top-selling imported beverage in the US so I can understand how you would be confused.
I wish I could plug trump’s mouth.
Because he lies, he abuses the press and reporters, and much to my delight he abuses other republicrooks.
His ogre-mentality doesn’t even stop when he destroys the lives and livelihoods of HIS trumpettes.
But they still love him! Imagine that!
Although a survey out today lists his popularity in the lower 40s due to the way he is handling this crisis.
Let’s look at the facts, shall we?
Not the venom spewed by loudmouth Rushey and trump’s other cohorts.
Scientists (read smart people that are not loudmouths and blowhards like our fearful leader) compare the COVID-19 with other coronaviruses known to infect humans
This article in LiveScience will hopefully leave the blowhards sucking air:
The LiveScience link you share with you the 13 myths that have been busted by science and not hyperbole, or racism, xenophobia.
Just because something is foreign, strange, brown or black-skinned does not mean IT IS BAD!
The researchers have at least two plausible explanations as to the origin of SARS-CoV-2 which is the virus that causes COVID-19.
The first is that a historical animal that spread the SARS virus in Asia and MERS in the Middle East.
The animal is a civet.
This is a delicacy in some Asian countries. As is the fruit it excretes. It is washed off and the coffee beans are roasted and ground for – coffee!
If you are not getting enough of exotic names, diseases, etc. I have attached a link to a glossary of terms.
One of the terms on this list is “zoo tonic diseases” . It means that the virus that is already on its way to us (you think because this one is so bad that we are going to be done with them? Not a chance!)
I don’t want you to get in trouble with your teacher when school reopens next fall, so I will correct myself. Zoontonic or zoonoses are diseases that spread from animals to humans according to the CDC.
For every acre of forest that Brazil burns, for every coral reef that is destroyed in Australia or New Zealand, what are the chances that we will run into more problems not only because of Climate Change but by stealing wildlife habitat we are increasing our risks.
If you are not stirred up enough worrying about your parents, or grandparents or children here is another fine mess.
Another something to chew on. Coming diseases from your backyard will be a subject in another post.
In 2009 a program initially planned by the Obama Administration was launched to “hunt for unknown viruses that can cross from animals to humans and cause pandemics.
So the why and wherefore is the same old song. Budgets, not enough money not enough manpower. “Michael Buchmeier, a virologist and associate director of the Center for Virus Research at the U Cal Irvine. “We’ve been gutting surveillance for too long”.
It did not help that in 2009 trump fired the researchers from this program at the CDC.
A really big question right now: is coronavirus going to come back and haunt us as the flu viruses do?
Plan on it.
While SARS was in 2002-2003. MERS started in 2012 and is still going. And Novel Coronavirus in 2020.
MERS-CoV was spread by camel and probably bats. MERS is the really nasty one. 25% to 30% of those who are infected die from it. Through 2018 2,500 people have died from it.
Minnesota has recorded 986 infections and 30 deaths so far from novel coronavirus.
Another tragic consequence of COVID-19 is the demographic toll it has been taking.
I am going to share in perspective:
In only six weeks the US death toll zoomed from zero to more than 12,000!
Hospitals are out of supplies; cities are out of morgue space. They are using potter’s fields. And using prison inmates to dig the grave.
Blacks and other Latin Americans are bearing the brunt of COVID-19.
In Michigan, 33% of infections are seen in blacks and Latin Americans.
The death rate is 41%.
These numbers do not reflect the fact that blacks and Latin Americans represent only 14% of the population.
Governor John Bell Edwards in Louisiana states that slightly more than 70% of all deaths are found in the black population.
Blacks represent 33% of the total population.
We have to be prepared for the overwhelming amount of deaths that we are going to see in the coming months.
Cheryl Rolston, director of the emergency department
“They just watched four codes happen. This is ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ stuff for them, not real life. It shouldn’t happen in front of them.“
Dr. Lorenzo Paladino, of young patients in the ER
“You’re driving down New York Avenue or Nostrand Avenue, which are pretty busy thoroughfares — it’s almost crickets. But then here in the emergency department, it’s a level of intensity that you only see in disaster zones.”
Dr. Robert Gore
According to scientists, 70% of merging infectious diseases in humans are of zoonotic origin.
Scientists also say, there are nearly 1.7 million undiscovered viruses may exist in wildlife. Many researchers are searching for the ones that could cause the next animal-to-human spillover. The likeliest hot spots have three things in common, Daszak said: lots of people, diverse plants and animals, and rapid environmental changes.

This is what they saw!
39 Resources for Teachers and Home Schoolers During the Crushing Period of Lockdown due to COVID-19!
A few hours ago I saw a notice flash across my monitor.
I have been building a new blog website – for free this time – no expense!
Then I heard on TV a teacher say that she was going to set up assignments this evening.
So I had better get a hustle-in-my-bustle!
I was using the “Capitalize My Title” website when I used the plugin offering 30+ FREE resources to teachers and home schoolers.
What a GREAT idea for a blog post.
Of course, I had no idea that it would take me two days and a few hours to type!
It is on the site “Capitalize My Title” as I mentioned. I don’t want you to forget. I would like to try some of these apps. Some I have used and some I still use.
It is offering “30+ FREE Online Teaching Resources for Teachers Affected by Coronavirus.
It was posted on 3/18/20 at 1.15 PM so it is still pretty FRESH.
The staff at “Capitalize My Title” did a SUPERB job.
“Capitalize My Title” also offes excellent blogs on SEO and other criteria for an excellent blog site. I printed out 6 or 7 chapters.
I am going to use their layouts and texts since they did such a great job. Also, I think not using quotes will make reading a lot easier. There are 38 paragraphs with internet references!
I will post fairly close to the way they are described on the website.
But you know I have to make some lamebrain comments, RIGHT?
The team at “Capitalize My Title” puff out their chests – as well they should – for scurrying around finding all of these resources and diligently laying them out so legibly.
The kids should thank their lucky stars because I AM NOT a teacher by trade or luck.
That means that you teachers, you homeschoolers, you volunteers deserve all the kudos for the great job you do.
These tools are not geared toward teenagers. WHEW!
Now if the tools hold up to your scrutiny I will have done a great job (I am going into this a non-educated OAF you understand.

Humans have been afflicted by a series of coronaviruses in additon to deadly flu strains.
That lead me to write this.
It appears that violence and harassment are increasing as the COVID-19 pandemic deepens.
The violence against immigrants is particularly distressing.
Bigotry and fear are no excuse for behaving like jackasses and worse.
If you want to know why read this.
Many of you have heard of SARS, a viral infection before COVID-19 which we are suffering through right now.
The SARS pandemic ran from 2002 to 2004.
The outbreak originated in Foshan, China and infected over 8,000 people and caused 774 deaths worldwide.
Images from Wikipedia
Since SARS there has been MERS.
It too was a coronavirus.
Mortality was about one-third of diagnosed cases.
Camels have been shown to have antibodies but there is no scientific proof of how they got infected or how it spread to humans.
It’s spread outside of a hospital is rare.
But image a 1/3 death rate!
By the numbers: Information from WHO with links in blue Image World Health Organization
Why are they called coronaviruses?
SARS was mainly in the East and MERS in Saudi Arabia and the East.
The most recent pandemic to affect the United States was the H1N1 “swine flu”. In 2009 it aflicted over 60 million people in the United States.
The COVID-19 is not in that category.
The swine flu hit the younger people hard. I remember standing in line with my sons waiting to get the vaccination shot.
Another coronavirus. Where do they come from?
These are pangolins rescued from poachers. They are a luxury ingredient in Chinese and Philipine medicinal potions.
In February 2020 Chinese researchers identified that Pangolins match 98 percent of the cells in the COVID-19 virus. Later the number was rechecked and it dropped to 90.3%.
Scientists will have to searching for the culprit.
Thanks for stopping.

A Savage Hoax-0f-the-Day is Scheduled for Polarizing Effect
This may not seem to be the beginning it was meant to be but I am going to tackle something BIG! REALLY BIG! And I don’t want to scare you off right away.
I am going to tackle SOCIALISM. Democratic Socialism to be exact.
Now the political season of 2020 has begun. It will be brutal, bloodletting and of extreme importance.
I hope not to be paying attention. I am not interested in watching the game as concerned with the results.
Since I have to wait until November 8, 2020, to find out the score, I am going to try to occupy my mind with other tasks.
I am turning off my daily headline feed for The New York Times and Washington Post.
Hopefully, I will find other’s I can live without.
I mentioned in an earlier post of the find of “Cognoscenti” from WBUR in Boston as a source of excellent material for posts.
It has not disappointed.
On August 29, 2018, was a commentary “This is What Voters Need to Know About Democratic Socialism”.
I am not going to be concerned regarding how the game is played. I just want to at least try to influence it.
Mr. Rich Barlow writes for Boston University news website. He writes for WBUR’s “Cognoscenti” about once a week.
A few of his current postings:
1. “How Trump Supporters Justify His Actions: A Thought Experiment”.
2. “To Stop Clergy Sexual Abuse, The Catholic Church Should Ordain Women”.
3. “The Republicans Need a New Hero and His Name is Mr.Rogers”.
Excellent articles and sometimes with a twist.
Democratic Socialism was a driving force in the elections of 2018 and is heading in that direction in 2020 again.
“So let’s get to it” as Mr. Chris Cuomo is apt to say.
“Mr. Barlow is correct in his assertion that Single-payer health care has become a religion for Democrats running in major states.”
Several Democratic politicians are advocating Medicare for All (M4A is the abbreviation).
We have to find out what we are talking about.
Right-wing shills scream Communism! will be hollered up and down the once hallowed halls. Now that Beto O’Rourke blew his line regarding taking guns away the Republicans will not be shooting blanks
Lest they forget: Wealthy people pay no taxes: 44.4% of US Citizens. THEY PAY NO Federal Income Tax! THAT IS 76.4 MILLION people!
To be accurate we should say that only 76.4 million Americans benefit from Socialism. Correct??
What about corporations. The tax rate for corporations used to be 35%. It is now 21% thanks to the Republicans. This is lower than the 28% of Reagan’s day and people make a LOT MORE MONEY TODAY! Theoretically, they should be paying at a higher rate.
60 corporations did not pay their $16 BILLION IN TAXES. But they did receive a REFUND of over $4 BILLION.
Corporations such as Amazon, Goodyear, Delta Air Lines, IGM, Deere did not pay any – ZERO- taxes.
Before Reagan, these corporations had a tax rate of 28%. Now, YOU ARE THE WINNER IN THIS LOTTERY AND YOU ARE ALLOWED to pay $1 TRILLION TAX BILL and it is not even the end of the Fiscal Year. And you are allowed to pay it by yourself!! With no BILLIONS FROM CORPORATIONS and the 76.4 MILLION PEOPLE WHO PAY NO TAXES!
So please make sure that your children and grandchildren know why you don’t give them toys for Christmas. Because you gave it all to the IRS!
But since Denmark and other Scandinavian countries use such a combination of private/government partnerships we know that isn’t true.
It also not true that Democratic Socialism is socialism.
True socialism is described in this column by the esteemed conservative columnist George Will
He places the true engine of socialism as being the government owning and planning all activities in society.
That is not something the US has to fear now or at any time.
“In Scandinavia, seven out of every 10 workers labor for private enterprise.”
Indeed many, “including the libertarian Cato Institutes that progressive Nobel Prize Winning economist Paul Krugman declares Denmark, a market economy”.
They have avoided both southern Europe’s economic sclerosis and America’s extreme inequality”. (This article was written in 2013 which allows that it have missed the growing mess of the world order in 2018.)
“Private, multi-payer systems in Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands yield top-quality universal care that’s a bargain compared to ours.”
While it had its warts that could have been excised by thoughtful policy changes, the ACA or Obamacare was a model of a multi-payer system.
It has now been so bastardized by trump that we will need to start again.
Thanks for stopping.
The Love God Lavishly Bestows on Us
“The quality or state of being conscious or aware of something “their mindfulness of the wider cinematic tradition”
A mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness “on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and “accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.
“Mindfulness is the basic human ”ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us”
I just read a post about post-Christianity America and how irrelevant we are to millennials and society at large.
I let out an audible ‘whew’ when he (Benjamin Sledge of “HeartSupport” started to discuss how much better Christianity will be when all the false believers die off and the Christian churches become vibrant again.
It is such a shocker and eye-opener that I have linked to it here if you are interested. It is a well-written piece.
It is also a re-affirmation of what we are reading and studying, how to let the Holy Spirit work in our prayer life and help lead us thru the dark night of the soul (if that is what we desire- it is not a requirement) so that people will Jesus living in us.
Mr. Sledge quotes Dr. Timothy Keller “we are so loved that we don’t despair when we do wrong, but so sinful that we have no right to be puffed up when we do right.” If you read the article at the link you will find that Dr. Keller has some teachings that require the historical Christian church to hesitantly approve of his gospel.
But remember Paul’s cautionary instruction in Philippians 1:18: “But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this, I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice,” (NIV).
We started this post by looking at the definition and explanation of Mindfulness.
A Google search will display a graph on how much and how fast Mindfulness has grown in recent years. It is astonishing. The Veteran’s Administration even has an application for your phone to make it easier to use.
But I would ask you (without looking back at definitions of contemplation:
Which do you prefer in your life Mindfulness, or contemplation or both?
2. Which do you think is more necessary for today’s society?
3. Which do you think would have the biggest, best impact on today’s society if a majority were to start practicing it?
St. Teresa and St. John of the Cross were good friends
“A Taste of Silence” by Father Carl Arico
“The classic meaning of contemplation is “resting in God.”
“There as two types of contemplation: acquired and infused.”
Father Arico goes into much detail describing all of the terms involved. But I will leave the details to you and spell out as plainly as I can the terms I will be using.
Father Arico states:
Acquired contemplation is the effort we put in under the prompting of the Spirit to rest in the presence of God.
a. This can be concentrative or receptive
i. Examples of concentrative prayer are discursive meditation, visual meditation and affective prayer
ii. In concentrative we use our faculties (imagination, intellect, will) to produce the effect of resting in the presence of God.
iii. “Examples of receptive could be the Jesus Prayer (Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner), Christian Zen prayer, or Christian meditation-the repetition of a mantra.”
(The Jesus Prayer is an historical prayer of the Eastern Catholic churches.)
An easier way maybe with a comparison: But remember this exercise in terminology in no way has an effect on your prayer.
It is merely to acquaint you with some terms.
A. In concentrative acquired contemplation, you are concentrating, you are active
B. In receptive acquired contemplation, you don’t try to understand, you don’t try to feel anything, you surrender, you consent. If you get an insight, you let it go. You simply want to be letting everything go for the sake of resting in the Lord.
“Some people as they become more comfortable in simple prayer forms begin to feel uncomfortable with the wordiness of prayer talk. It is a process of being away from discursive prayer and meditation. This doesn’t mean it is bad to use the words and symbols of discursive prayer it just means we are maturing in prayer. We don’t stop with these prayers. They become even more meaningful. It just means there is a simplification taking place.”
Infused contemplation is a gift from the Holy Spirit. The Spirit sees the effort we are making to rest in God’s presence. We can only go so far on our own. Then the Spirit takes over and brings us to deeper rest. All prayer is a gift from God.”
Let’s look at the two opposites. In acquired contemplation, I can say ‘I did this’, ’it had this effect and I’m going to do that again.”
“With infused contemplation, all I really know is that I was there. We are moving without effort, without flaw. In the dance of prayer, we are united, one with God. From this loving union flows a loving knowledge transcending abstract conceptual knowledge. The infused quality of this loving knowledge indicates that it is wholly a gift from God and is totally beyond human capacity. No human effort can bring it about. It is pure gift.”
“Teilhard de Chardin was a Jesuit priest and paleontologist who took part in the discovery of Peking Man (in 1923–1927).
He defined the gift of the Holy Spirit this way: “To lose oneself in the unfathomable, to plunge into the inexhaustible, to find peace in the incorruptible, to give one’s deepest to him whose depths have no end.”
Now Father Arico gives us a glimpse of where he is leading us-into Centering Prayer.
“Centering prayer (receptive acquired contemplation) is a method to facilitate the development of contemplative prayer by preparing our faculties to cooperate with this gift (infused contemplation).
It is not meant to replace other kinds of prayer. During the time of prayer, we consent to God’s presence and action within us.”
“Centering Prayer is preparing one to receive the gift of infused contemplation if the Spirit so chooses to do so.”
At this point, Father Arico starts exploring what is meant by transformation. In Scripture we hear about a “new creation”, “born again”, “I live now not I but Christ lives in me”, “unless you are born again of water and the Holy Spirit you will not enter the kingdom of God.”
“The new life we are called to has been called “transformation” by contemporary writers.
The process of transformation simply means a complete overhaul by the Spirit within each of us.” The liturgy has a fine summation: “Through him and with Him and in Him in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is Yours almighty Father, forever and ever. Amen.”
God the potter continues to work in our lives. We need to look at the potter. The potter has to break the old mold in order to replace it with a new one, so we must let go of the old self and replace it with the new.”
We now have an awful tension within us- if we take only part of the message.
We see faithfulness to God as the path to peace and harmony.
But it is also a path of unrest when we must change our preconceived notions of what life is all about. You now see it means accepting the uncertainties of the journey.
Earlier I mentioned St. John of the Cross, he wrote “Dark Night of the Soul.”
“This night is God’s transforming process. The dark is our resistance when we don’t want to change. We arm wrestle with God and fight against changing with all our might.”
As we move thru this dark night, we start to feel our of control. We have felt that we have had our prayer routine scheduled and in good order. Soon the old answers aren’t working anymore. Are you falling apart? Maybe you feel like you are losing your dedication. If you are faithful to your prayer life, you will find that God is moving you into a new way of life.
“You will need to learn that you are not always in control. It does not feel that way, but it is true. Many run from this experience of brokenness. We fear it. Yet it is part of the transformation.”
These transformations are not done by us. “They are being done to us because we are open to remaining in the presence of God. We become open to become what we are called to be.”
We are probably are not even aware of the changes in our life. Other people are. Some may even mention it to us. But this is not something we are ‘working on’. But the Spirit is working on us, and in us and thru us as we begin to live out our calling.
You will notice the difference in your life. Peace will come to your spirit. Joy will come to your heart. Clarity will come to your mind.
In my experience.
Thanks for joining me.
