I have been researching for this series for over a year. I can’t get this man out of my mind. He drives me crazy mad. I published this series on Hubpages in January 2019.

My political blog is ‘ I spend way too much time writing on trump and the republicans.

Several times I have written that I could not figure out how trump loyalists can support him.

This will be the  final post before the downfall of America. Although I do maintain the right to comment on the dire day as it gets closer.

I have to find a real part-time job to supplement our meager Social Security income.

Introduction to Dr. Bobby Azarian

Much of this series is based on articles in ‘Psycholody Today’ dated 12/12/2018 by Bobby Azarian, Ph.D. Dr. Azarian is the author of “Mind in the Machine”.

A good start on the articles by Dr. Azarian are at this link: A Complete Psychological Analysis of Trump’s Support | Psychology Today

Current Hypothesis

My current hyposthesis is that trump will disemember the Federal Government. At this point we are on day 27 of the SHUTDOWN with no glimmer of a light at the end of the tunnel.

My thinking is that this is a dry run. Trump and his criminal co-conspirators are planning on NOT relinquishing the reins of power if he loses the 2020 election. Hopefully he is making his plans known so that there will be no surprises when that day comes.

The reason republicans have been so loyal to him (READ: NOT DOING THEIR CONSTITUTIONALLY APPOINTED DUTIES) is that they will grab up the best parts of what is dismantled and discarded. They will PRIVATIZE them and so profit immensely.

The major Senate players: McConnell, Graham, Rubio made their trips to Russia and were rewarded with major contributions to their reelection coffers.

McConnell Received $3.5M In Campaign Donations From Russian Oligarch-Linked Firm – The Intellectuali

Len Blavatnik donated $3.5 million to Mitch McConnell’s PAC from 2015 to 2017.

Lindsey Graham Received Campaign Donations From Firm Tied To Russian Oligarch – The Intellectualist

GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham received $800,000 from a Ukrainian-born oligarch with ties to Putin’s inner circle.

Marco Rubio received money from oligarch linked to Russia

The Case for Trump’s Deep State

My first post in this series explained my use of the term ‘Deep State’ to describe trump’s deep hold on the republicans and his supporters. The term deep state is usually used to describe his opposition but I believe his stranglehold is best described as HIS Deep State.

Dr. Azarian lays out that while most politicians lie, none does it in the magnitude or frequency of trump.

Dr. Azarian has drawn some of his conclusions from a 2017 review paper published in the Journal of Social and Political Psychology by the psychologist and UC Santa Cruz professor Thomas Pettigrew.

He also credits posts in publications Psychology Today which were inspired by insights from psychologist Sheldon Solomon (who laid the groundwork for the influential “Terror Management Theory and David Dunning who did the same for the DunningKruger Effect.

Whom are you voting for? This guy can read your mind. – The Washington Post

This might be the closest the country gets to an explanation of this crazy election without dissecting a brain.

The Psychological Quirk That Explains Why You Love Donald Trump – POLITICO Magazine

The popularity of the GOP front-runner can be partially explained by the Dunning-Kruger Effect.

But the real reasons that trump (tRump, Drumpf and many other appellations from his myriad detractors) appears to be invincible with his base:

1. Practicality trumps Morality (pun intended):

For rich people, trump gives tax cuts and they follow him anywhere even to the detriment of the environment in which they have to live.

2. The brain’s attention span is more strongly engaged by trump:

For a study in the Washington Post “Participants watched 40 minutes of political ads.” Hillary Clinton held their attention for only so long.

Trump held their attention and emotional arousal high throughout the session. EVEN when participants didn’t agree with his statements.

3. America’s Obsession with Entertainment Celebrities:

Trump supporters are addicted to entertainment and so-called reality TV. Some of his supporters even FORGIVE what he says. They seem to be happy “as long as they are entertained.”

4. “Some Men Just Want to Watch the World Burn”:

Some of his supporters are probably too rebellious and just love chaos. They seek to trounce the establishment even with fire when necessary. Dr. Azarian labels this Schadenfreude.

5. The Fear Factor: Conservatives are More Sensitive to Threats:

This is a BIGGIE.

“Science has shown that the conservative brain has an exaggerated fear response when faced with stimuli that may be perceived as threatening.”

In the Journal “Science a study found “that conservatives have a stronger physiological reaction to startling noises and graphic images compared to liberals.”

A brain imaging study published in “Current Biology” revealed that those who lean right politically tend to have a larger amygdala – a structure that is electrically active during states of fear and anxiety.

A 2014 MRI study found that it is possible to predict whether someone is liberal or conservative simply by looking at their brain activity as they view threatening or disgusting images, such as mutilated bodies.

“Specifically, the brains of self-identified conservatives generated more activity overall in response to disturbing images.”

“Fear keeps his followers energized and focused on safety.”

6. The Power of Mortality Reminders and the Perceived Existential Threat;

A part of the “Terror Management Theory explains Trump’s fear mongering. “Humans have a unique awareness of their own mortality. The inevitability of one’s death creates existential terror and anxiety.”

To manage these fears human follow religions, political ideologies etc “act as a buffer instilling life with meaning and value.”

(Existential: concerned with existence; affirming the existence of a thing. Google)

Fear mongering reminds people of their own mortality and “they will more strongly defend those who share identities against those who do not share the same.”

Death reminders “may influence voting habits in favor of more conservative presidential candidates (in favor of George W. Bush) in this study.

Trump’s constant emphasizing of threats may be making brains respond “positively rather than negatively to bigoted statements and divisive rhetoric.”

7. The Dunning-Kruger Effect: Humans often Overestimate Their Political Expertise:

Some who support trump are under- or uneducated or misinformed about issues. These people “just take trump’s word” for his lies.

The Dunning-Kruger Effect “explains that the problem isn’t that they are misinformed: it’s that they are completely unaware they are misinformed”!

new study published in the journal Political Psychology, carried out by the political scientist Ian Anson at the University of Maryland Baltimore County hammers the Dunning-Kruger Effect home and even expands on its implications. Please follow the link in the next paragraph.

As predicted, the results showed that those who scored low on political knowledge were also the ones who overestimated their level of knowledge. But that wasn’t all. When participants were given cues that made them engage in partisan thought, the Dunning-Kruger effect was made even stronger. This occurred with both Republicans and Democrats, but only in those who scored low on political knowledge to begin with. Another link to similar material.
